Chad from Go Hyperlocal has launched a hyperlocal directory. As of the date of publishing it looks like he has 39 sites listed so far. Looks like a good start in a couple of weeks since the hyperlocal directory launched.

Matt’s developing a resource for hyperlocal bloggers and has four hyperlocal blogs of his own. Looks like a great resource.
Are there other similar resources out there for hyperlocal bloggers?

After using WordPress + BuddyPress for a while I’m conflicted. What should belong in a status update and what should be a blog post? Anyone have some guidelines? One limitation of the status update is no WYSIWYG, therefore no embeds or links.
Which one promotes the type of conversation you are seeking for the space? My personal thought is to look for a form of interaction that allows users /visitors to engage issues and discuss solutions in an open forum. A blog could be useful but not always as public. Status updates may not promote the depth of interaction your subject requires. Something more forum oriented that could be subject based may work. Thoughts?
”Which one promotes the type of conversation you are seeking for the space?”
- Good question, I think maybe the forums would be better than blog postings and I think BuddyPress allows for integration with BBPress forums. I can try and add some forums here.
As for the front page I’m thinking the activity stream is better than the blog for now as it will show more interaction.
Excellent idea. Leverage the strengths of all of the platforms available to you. Also, BuddyPress would be a great tool for eventual integration for your Rancho-Post citizen journalists. II like that it is notifying me as a result of our interaction.

Great job on the Social connector Geoff

Added a Gigya Socialize plugin to allow login from other social sites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Yahoo, LinkedIn, and any OpenID site. Will need to test this out, however it provides an easy way to login without creating another account if you already use these other services. Let us know if this works for the hyperlocalist community. Are there other things which could make this new social network easier to use or better for sharing?

The hyperlocal movement if you can call it that has been growing for years. I for one would welcome more sharing of ideas and best practices. I’ve seen some blogs pop up of late that cover the hyperlocal movement, however I’m interested in connecting with other hyperlocalists. My thought was if we can all collaborate [...]
